General Information

The site isgi.unistra.fr is published by the International Service of Geomagnetic Indices (ISGI), Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre de Strasbourg (EOST), 5 rue René Descartes, 67084 Strasbourg Cedex France.
The International Service of Geomagnetic Indices (ISGI) website is provided as a public international service by the Université de Strasbourg (UniStra, France), Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers - Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS-INSU, France), Ecole et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre de Strasbourg (EOST, France) and International Service of Geomagnetic Indices (ISGI).

Policy on General contents

The general contents (texts, including press releases, videos, pictures and animations) that appear or are available on the site are protected by copyright and intellectual property. They are the exclusive property of ISGI. As such, you agree not to copy, translate, reproduce, sell, publish, exploit and disseminate the contents of the site protected by intellectual property law, without prior written permission of ISGI.

The ISGI allows the user, however, the right to reproduce any contents of the site as copy for backup or printout. This right is granted as part of a strictly personal, private and not collective use.

Policy on Geomagnetic Indices

The Policy on Geomagnetic Indices follows the International Council for Science World Data System (ICSU WDS) Data Policy (http://www.icsu-wds.org/organization/data-policy)
The ISGI Data Policy recognizing the benefits and importance of contributing to the growing international efforts of data sharing, has adopted the following general principles:

The data are supplied on the condition that they are not used for commercial gain (media, transcription and other costs may be charged to the user).
The ISGI recognizes the value to commerce of geomagnetic data and derived products, which are available in near real time, and accepts the right of ISGI Collaborating Institutes to recover costs for services and to levy charges when possible and as necessary. ISGI Collaborating Institutes will undertake to safeguard the interests of fellow participants, concerning the commercial usage of the data they are in charge of.
The quick-look data (also named preliminary data) are raw, automatically processed data that have not passed through any review by ISGI and/or ISGI collaborating Institutes scientists. They are intended for applications where gaps and glitches in the data are expected and accepted, for example, assimilation by forecast models. Near-real-time data should not be used in lieu of final, "clean", regularly reported data, and the data providers expressly deny permission for users to publish near-real-time data.
The provisional data are first step towards definitive data and have passed through routine-review by ISGI and/or ISGI collaborating Institutes scientists. They are intended for applications when definitive data are not still available.
The definitive data contained on ISGI Web site are available free of charge for non-commercial and scientific use. Definitive Geomagnetic Indices are available with open access and without login.

Policy on Acknowledgements for Geomagnetic Indices

By using this data, you, as data user, accept that an offer of co-authorship will be made through personal contact with the related ISGI collaborating Institute(s) whenever substantial use is made of the data for any publication or website.
By using this data, you, as data user, should acknowledge the ISGI collaborating Institute(s) in charge of the corresponding index (indices), the ISGI, the INTERMAGNET organization and the associated geomagnetic observatories.
We offer two acknowledgement templates. The first is for cases where several geomagnetic indices from various ISGI collaborating Institutes have been used and it is not practical to list them all. The second is for cases where research results have been produced using a single geomagnetic indice.
Suggested Acknowledgement Text (template 1)
The results presented in this paper rely on geomagnetic indices calculated and made available by ISGI Collaborating Institutes from data collected at magnetic observatories. We thank the involved national institutes, the INTERMAGNET network and ISGI (isgi.unistra.fr).
